The very scenic drive begins in Idaho Springs which is just over 30 miles west of Denver. If you're going to take the 28-mile drive to the top a good start is to stop by the Idaho Springs Visitor Center so you know exactly what to expect plus while you're in town you can fill up your tank and grab some snacks to make the trip even more fun.

Here are some pictures to help you understand where you need to go and some of the amazing views you will see along your journey to see the highest paved road in the U.S.

Highest Paved Road in U.S. is Mount Evans Scenic Byway

Often times you cannot hit the summit unless it is Memorial Day through Labor Day because Colorado weather makes the roads difficult to drive on. Remember your jacket if you are going to take the trip because it could be 90+ degrees in Idaho Springs but at the Mount Evans summit, it might only be around 50 degrees. One thing is for sure, if you decide to take the drive it will be something you can check off your bucket list.
