Colorado Cyclist Dies During Race

A cyclist has unfortunately passed away while participating in a popular Colorado bike race.

The race, ironically called the 'Triple Bypass' cycling event, took place a few days ago on Saturday, August 21st, 2021.

The man, whose name has yet to be released, was allegedly an avid cyclist who resided in Centennial, Colorado.

The race is named the 'Triple Bypass' not necessarily because of the difficulty of the ride, but more so because it takes place across three of Colorado's passes. These passes include Juniper, Loveland, and Vail, all of which cyclists ride after beginning the race in Evergreen, Colorado.

The cyclist that passed away allegedly collapsed during the race and was swiftly met with medical personnel who attempted to resuscitate him, but their efforts proved to be unsuccessful as he passed away shortly thereafter.

The Triple Bypass racecourse spans a total of 106.2 miles and because it covers so many passes in Colorado's rocky mountains, has quite the gain in elevation throughout. In fact, the course rises 10,612 feet in elevation as well as dropping 10,170 feet in elevation, proving to be quite the rigorous course.

As of now, the man's death has been ruled as being caused by natural causes and his name will likely be released once all of the victim's family has been notified of the tragedy.

Colorado is quite well-known for its outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and of course, cycling, but these types of activities definitely carry risks and sometimes, unfortunately, result in tragedy.
