It's the fast-food chicken battle to end all chicken battles.

Popeye's is known for fried chicken - not sandwiches. Chick-fil-A is known for chicken sandwiches, not fried chicken. Yet, these two fast-food chicken giants have created quite an internet buzz.

In the Grand Valley we have Chick-fil-A on Highway 6 & 50, and Popeye's on the I-70 Business Loop in Clifton. Distance-wise they couldn't be farther apart, but what about their sandwiches? Are they comparable?

Recently, Popeye's introduced a new chicken sandwich nationwide. Chick-fil-A consequently posted a response on Twitter touting their own chicken sandwich. Popeye's responded to the Chick-fil-A post, and soon after, Shake Shack and Wendy's joined the fray, defending their own chicken offerings as being superior, and suddenly we have an all-out Twitter war on our hands.

Meanwhile, in various chat locations on the internet, chicken sandwich connoisseurs are jumping into the 'fight' to proclaim which sandwich is king.

When it comes to chicken sandwiches, Chick-fil-A has long been the standard by which other chicken sandwiches are measured. A high-quality sandwich, lightly breaded, that truly is enjoyable.

So, Popeyes, which specializes in Louisiana-kitchen style fried chicken and fixin's decided to challenge the chicken sandwich king by offering their own chicken sandwich. Bold move.

I have to admit, it did make me curious. I had to know. Could the Popeye's sandwich stand up against the industry standard? Could it be as good? Could it possibly be better?

When it comes to chicken sandwiches I like mine on the spicy side and I've had more than my share of them from Chick-fil-A. So I rushed to Popeye's to sample their spicy chicken sandwich so I could do a comparison.

The sandwich, as it turned out was quite tasty and consuming it was rather pleasurable. It is more heavily coated in breading than Chick-fil-A, which is fine, except for the fact there is a special sauce on the sandwich which compromised the crispiness of the breading and dampened my enjoyment slightly. It probably would be a good idea to serve any liquid condiments on the side. So, while the Popeye's sandwich was delicious, the Zane Mathews taste-test gives the edge to the chicken sandwich king - Chick-fil-A.

I am curious about other people's reaction and opinions, so please take a moment for the poll below and let me know who, in your opinion, has the best chicken sandwich.
