You know the holidays are officially here when the Boy Scouts start selling Christmas trees.

The time is drawing near. Boy Scout Troops 303, 323, and 353 will once again be selling Christmas trees this year and it feels like folks are already lining up to get one.

The holiday season does feel a little strange right now, but it also feels like the classic Christmas song says "we need a little Christmas NOW." It's been a tough year for so many people in so many ways, whether it has been financial hardships and loss of jobs, losing loved ones, or dealing with getting kids educated. We need a celebration and we need some joy, but I understand that not everybody feels like celebrating right now. But, I think a lot of people are ready to go "whole hog" this Christmas season, and I'm one of them.

It has been years since our family has had a live Christmas tree and this year we decided it was time for a change. When we made the decision to go with a real tree I knew immediately I wanted to buy a tree from the Boy Scouts. I used to be a boy scout, back in the day, believe it or not, and I just feel like I'd like to help their cause. The money raised from tree sales helps fund events and activities they do throughout the year.

Last year, the Boy Scout tree lot in Grand Junction was a popular place. I don't know if they sold out or not, but I do know that two weeks before Christmas they only had 10 trees left. That's why I want to be near the front of the line when the trees go on sale.

The  Boy Scout Christmas tree sale begins on Black Friday, November 27. I may be stuffed with pumpkin pie that day, but I'm going to find the strength to get myself out to the Sutherlands parking lot by Mesa Mall to find the perfect tree.

The tree lot will be open on Black Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm and at the same time on Saturday and Sunday. The lot will be closed on Monday and Tuesday and then open Wednesday through Friday 4:00 pm- 7:00 pm.

The Boy Scouts kindly ask that everyone shopping for a tree wears a mask and practice safe social distancing while you picking out the tree of your choice.
