Brittany Marie Von Stein, a Basalt High School choir teacher from Carbondale was arrested Wednesday, charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

The Basalt Police Department was investigating the teacher through last week due to information received that the teacher was allegedly involved in a relationship with a student at the school.

Nom Stein was placed on administrative leave last week for personal reasons with the understanding that if she was unable to return to her position she would be replaced.

The music program at the school has seen an upswing in students involved in the program since Von Stein took over the program in 2015, leading both the middle school and high school programs.

Von Stein is a graduate of Ohio State University and was named the Colorado Music Educator's Association Outstanding Young Educator Award in 2018.

Von Stein is free on a $10,000 bond.
