True Crime Colorado: Murder Case Against Barry Morphew Suddenly Dismissed
In a shocking turn of events, the Colorado murder case against Barry Morphew has been surprisingly dismissed.
According to a report from KKTV, the murder case against Barry Morphew regarding his missing wife, Suzanne Morphew, has been dismissed without prejudice.
The Colorado Disappearance of Suzanne Morphew
It was Mother's day of 2020 when Suzanne Morphew, 49, a Chaffee County resident was reported missing by her neighbor.
Initially her husband, Barry Morphew told investigators that he had left town early in the morning on the same day as Suzanne's disappearance. Morphew also stated that Suzanne was in bed sleeping when he last saw her.
Authorities were then led to believe that Suzanne had gone on a bike ride and never returned.
It's closing in on two years since Suzanne's disappearance and her family and investigators are working under the presumption that Suzanne is deceased.
Why Barry Morphew Was A Suspect
As in most cases, the husband is always a suspect. Once police began their investigation they found several inconsistencies in Barry's timeline of events.
What was even more alarming is the possible motive that authorities believed Barry had for killing his wife. Through the investigation, it was discovered that Suzanne was having an affair with another man, and was planning on divorcing Morphew.
Investigators believe that Morphew was angered upon hearing that things were over, and decided that if he couldn't have Suzanne, no one could.
Authorities were able to locate a tranquilizer cap with Suzanne's DNA and an arrest warrant for Morphew was issued on the charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and attempting to influence a public servant.
The arrest affidavit stated that it was believed Morphew, "resorted to something he has done his entire life — hunt and control Suzanne like he had hunted and controlled animals."
Barry Morphew Colorado Murder Case Dismissed
On April 19, 2022, the prosecution filed a motion to dismiss the charges against Barry Morphew.
The defense for Morphew had also filed motions to dismiss the charges, but they were previously rejected.
The prosecution filed the motion without prejudice, which means that they are able to bring charges again in the future. Supposedly the prosecution believes that they are close to recovering Suzanne's body and that finding her body will bring them the answers they're looking for.
The Search for Suzanne Morphew
The area where investigators and prosecutors believe Suzanne's body to be is located in Salida near the home where the Morphews once resided.
Unfortunately, the area has been unable to be excavated due to inclement weather.
The motion for dismissal states:
This area received a significant amount of snow over the winter months before a search could be completed. To date, the area has 5 feet of snow concealing the location where the People believe Ms. Morphew is located. As a result, the People cannot safely excavate this area and resolve this unanswered question.
Again, investigators and the prosecution believe that once Suzanne's body is found and recovered, her murder will be solved.
