5 Moonlit Guided Night Hikes to Try in Colorado This Summer
Summer day hiking can be hot, crowded, and... hot. But night hiking under the moonlight is an adventurous, different way to enjoy our outdoor spaces here in Colorado. And, you don't have to worry about sunscreen. Here are five-night hikes to add to your summer bucket list, from Lory State Park near Fort Collins to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
Aurora - Full Moon Hike
The City of Aurora hosts educational guided night hikes for $5, open to anyone over the age of six. The group meets at Plains Conservation Center, and there will be a Buck Moon hike on Friday, July 23, and a Sturgeon Moon hikes on Sunday, August 22.
Boulder - Green Mountain
Want to adventure in the dark, but with the security of an expert? This July through October, you can join REI for a three-mile hike. You'll have the safety of a group, with the convenience of provided gear like first aid kits and headlamps. The hike is 'easy,' level for those age12 and older, and you can join one of the six sessions here. There is a fee of $69.
Colorado Springs - Garden of the Gods
Did you know that Garden of the Gods Park is open until 10 p.m. in the summer? While it's not guided, it is free. Find helpful tips for experiencing the park (day and night) here.
Fort Collins - Lory State Park
Lory State Park is hosting a Park Sleepover on Friday, July 23. This experience offers the 'rare opportunity to spend the night in the park.' A guided night hike is included, along with dinner and a movie under the stars. All ages welcome, with a valid park pass.
Roxborough State Park
There are a number of moonlight hikes at Roxborough State Park through October. The hikes are open to those over the age of eight, with the purchase of a park pass.
