Caution: Is A Snow Storm Headed to the Grand Valley of Colorado?
The current weather outside in Mesa county isn't frightful, but it could be soon.
According to a report from the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning went into effect Thursday, December 9. The weather warning is said to stay in effect until 6 PM MST on Friday, December 10.
Snow Probability in the Grand Valley of Colorado
Heavy snow is predicted to hit the Grand Valley with the possibility of heavy snow acclimations of 1-2 feet. Conditions will also be windy with gusts as high as 40 mph.
"Snow will become widespread over the mountains becoming heavy at times this afternoon and overnight as an anomalously wet system moves through the region. Expect a mix of rain and snow in the higher valleys and mountain bases this afternoon before turning to all snow overnight. Strong wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph will create
areas of blowing snow resulting in reduced visibility, mainly in the high country," reports the National Weather Service.
Preparing for Inclement Weather
Remember to bring pets and plants inside as the weather is predicted to escalate. If your home is equipped with baseboard heaters you can use these tips for safety:
- Keep objects away from the baseboard
- Do not block the airflow to the baseboard
- Closely watch small children around the baseboard
- Leave the thermostat at one temperature
Winter Safety
With inclement weather comes hazardous conditions, that being said, safety should be a top concern. Take care when traveling as the roads are likely to become icy and slick. In addition, blowing snow can impact your visibility.
The national weather service recommends keeping food, water, and an extra flashlight inside of your vehicle in case of emergency.

Seeing is Believing
Of course, the weather can be fickle and completely change at a moment's notice. Do you expect the NWS's predictions to be correct?
