Time to get out the windbreaker. A fast moving storm headed towards Western Colorado is bringing plenty of the wind with it.

According to the National Weather Service, the Pacific storm system will bring plenty of wind and rain in the lower elevations and snow in the mountains on Thursday (February 18).

The winds are expected to average 20-30 miles per hour with gusts of 45 miles per hour or more possible in the lower elevations. That means some trash cans and other lighter objects may end up in some unexpected places.

Mountain areas can expect snow and blowing snow with very gusty winds possible, especially Thursday afternoon and evening, making travel in the Colorado high country hazardous through early Friday morning.

The good news is, the wind will help move the storm through Western Colorado quickly, so Friday will be back to the sunshine and mild temperatures we've enjoyed the early part of the week.

Plus, for those on the western side of Colorado wanting to head to Denver or other places along I-70 beyond Glenwood Springs, Friday will not only be a good weather day, but, at least, one lane of Glenwood Canyon should be reopened as well.
