Who is Sam Dew, the artist who joined Jack Antonoff on stage at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards to accept a Moonman on behalf of Taylor Swift and Zayn Malik? Glad you asked.

At last night's (August 27) show, Bleachers frontman Antonoff praised Dew, who co-wrote "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," as his "favorite new artist in the world." Dew, who was clearly unused to the praise and attention, could only think to say "Thank you, public speaking is hard."

Still, he's been speaking volumes elsewhere.

Dew, a Chicago-bred artist with a big range, broke through as a writer in 2013, when the hook he wrote for "LoveHate Thing" appeared on Wale's LP The Gifted. He's since written for Marsha Ambrosius, Rihanna (you can thank him for "Numb"), Mary J. Blige and Jessie Ware, and his work appeared in film on the Divergent soundtrack.

In 2015, RCA signed Dew as an artist in his own right, and his debut EP Damn Sue dropped in April 2015. He's set to perform alongside the likes of Solange and Willow Smith at Atlanta's Afropunk later this fall.

"Surreal night," Dew wrote after the curtains closed at the VMAs. Looking forward to many more...
