Election day is coming up in Grand Junction, but not everyone knows what's on the ballot.

For those that head out to the polls on Tuesday, April 4 - they'll be surprised to discover there are no polling locations. This is strictly a mail ballot election. Grand Junction city residents should have received a ballot in the mail earlier this month.

For those that are in the Grand Junction vicinity but aren't actually Grand Junction residents, this election could have an impact on you - so it's good to know what's on the ballot.

Seven candidates are vying for four seats on the Grand Junction City Council; Jesse Daniels and Phyllis Norris in District A; Martin Chazeman and C.E. Duke Wortmann in District B; Duncan McArthur running unopposed in District E; and  Lincoln Pierce and Rick Taggart for the at-large seat.

There are two questions on the ballot.

  • Measure 2A would authorize the city to raise the sales and use tax by 1/4 cent to fund the construction and operation of an event center. It will be extremely interesting to see how residents vote on this one.
  • Measure 2B would not raise taxes, but would simply authorize the city to use funds from the Riverside Parkway Debt Retirement Fund for road construction, repair, and improvements on Grand Junction's existing streets.

Ballots not being mailed in need to be turned in anytime between now and 7:00PM on Tuesday, April 4 at one of four locations:

  • Grand Junction City Hall, 250 N. Fifth Street
  • Mesa County Central Services, 200 S. Spruce (West Entrance, Main Entrance, or Outside Dropbox)

Anyone who didn't receive a ballot but thinks they should have, should contact the Mesa County Elections Office. By the way, if you got a ballot and you're not voting, don't complain about the election results.
