The year that was could be defined by what people wanted to learn about more.

Google has come out with its list of the most-searched topics for 2016. Pokémon Go, which became all the rage back in July, led the way among searches around the world, while Powerball set the pace in the United States.

There was some overlap among the searches. Donald Trump, Prince and David Bowie all appeared in the top 10 for both lists. The latter two also topped Google's list of losses, i.e., searches related to people who passed away in 2016.
