According to Grand Junction Police puffing, or leaving your car unattended while running, is illegal. You might think twice next time you go to warm up your car.

I asked Grand Junction's Public Information Officer, Heidi Davidson, is puffing illegal here in Grand Junction? To which Officer Davidson replied:

Puffing is illegal, with some exception made last year for vehicles with a remote start system.  It's a class B traffic infraction, involving a ticket being written and fine

Straight from the horse's mouth, leaving your car running while unattended is illegal. According to a link Officer Davidson provided me, you can't leave your motor vehicle...

...unattended without first stopping the engine, locking the ignition, removing the key from the ignition and effectively setting the brake thereon.

There are a few exceptions as Officer Davidson mentioned, such as if you have a remote start system. Which is defined as a "device installed in a motor vehicle that allows the engine of the vehicle to be started by remote or radio control."

A car with a remote start system is sounding better by the second. In the meantime, I'll be sitting in my car as it warms up from now on.
