Warmer weather is on the way, and this means an increased risk of fire danger throughout the Grand Valley.

The fire departments of Clifton and Grand Junction are spreading the word that with warmer weather, there is a higher risk of fire due to burning. Warmer temperatures coupled with low humidity is a dangerous combination when combined with winds.

It simply takes one good spark to be caught in a breeze to cause extensive damage and cause a fire that can spread quickly. It is recommended that if you are going to do any burning, that you check the weather forecast first. If you do choose to burn, be sure that it is attended at all times. This will not only protect you but those around you.

Most important, if a Red Flag Warning is put in place due to high winds or weather conditions. Simply put, do not burn. This means that conditions are very unstable and fires can become out of control quickly if they get out of hand.

Spring and Summer months are beautiful and pretty amazing here in the Grand Valley. Let's keep everyone safe to enjoy the beauty that is all around us.
