View the Grand Valley’s Smoke From the Top of Mt. Garfield
How about this smoke? Just how hazy is it in the Grand Valley? Check out the view, or lack thereof, from the top of Mt. Garfield.
Tuesday into Wednesday made for a sleepless night. At 4:19 a.m. Wednesday morning I decided to give up and accept the fact there would be no sleep. What does one do in a situation like this? Hike Mt. Garfield.
The climb was underway a little before 6 a.m. Believe or not, there were already four other cars in the parking lot.
Before long the sun was peeking out from behind the Mesa. Not long after, it became obvious just how much smoke was lingering in the valley.
Most of the video is captured close to the summit of Mt. Garfield. The time would be right about 7:15 a.m. For the record, I was in no hurry on this particular hike. On a normal day, the ascent up Mt. Garfield takes about an hour an a half.
You owe it to yourself to take this hike, especially in the early morning hours. Heads up, though. With the long stretch of dry weather, the dirt has become extremely loose. This hike marks the hardest time I've ever had making my way down the mountain.
Here's hoping the smoke clears out soon. Granted, it makes for a nice sunset, and even a photogenic sunrise, but it sure does mess with one's sinuses.
