A conscientious outdoor enthusiast will naturally want to pick up trash, even if it's someone else's to properly dispose of if they can. There is one kind of trash, a plastic bottle, that is so dangerous you shouldn't touch it.

The Garfield Sheriff's Office has received several reports of plastic bottles wrapped almost entirely in duct tape on the riverbanks in Garfield, Eagle, and Pitkin counties. A significant number of these bottles were found in the Roaring Fork River near Basalt.

Many of the bottles found contain a blue or purple liquid and what appears to be paper. It has been determined the liquid in the bottles is highly corrosive, flammable, and incredibly toxic.

Garfield County authorities say they believe the bottles contain chemicals used in cold cooking methamphetamine. If you find one of these bottles, do not touch or move it.  Do mark the bottle's location and call law enforcement with information about the bottle and location where it was found.
