Spread the holiday cheer this season and help ensure every family in Western Colorado has food on the table. This Saturday is the final push in our food drive for the Community Food Bank of Grand Junction.

For the last month, we've stopped off at a handful of Grand Junction Safeway locations with our Annual Community Challenge sponsored by Carville's Automart. This Saturday, December 15, is our last stop for 2018.

What happens when you donate to our annual food drive? According to the Community Food Bank, "Our mission is to provide nutritious food to individuals and families in crisis." Donations stay local, going to families right here in the valley.

Carville's Auto Mart has stepped up to the plate to ensure the food bank is well stocked for the winter. When you donate food or cash at our on-site donation stop, Carville's will match your cash donations, up to $1,000.

The Community Food Bank can purchase up to four pounds of food with each dollar. Carville's will match your cash donations dollar for dollar. So, if you donate one dollar to our food drive, with Carville's match, the food bank can purchase eight pounds of food.

This is your chance to help your hard-working friends and neighbors in Western Colorado through some tough times. We'll be out and about one more time before Christmas.

  • Saturday, December 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Safeway on Patterson

Do you remember the good ol' days when the crew at the station would camp out around the clock in dumpsters and cardboard boxes? We used to set up camp at the Rimrock Walmart. I was a part of that for 13 years. Back then we could collect thousands of pounds in donations in two days.

In recent years, instead of busting it all out in one shot, we break it up into various stops over a six-week period. In the end, the results are the same - thousands of pounds of food for local families in need.

Please note - your donations stay local! That's right, everything you donate stays right here in Western Colorado. As a matter of fact, crews shuttle the donations during out food stops. In other words, when you donate food items during one of our stops, that food is transported immediately to the Community Food Bank, where it is sorted, and distributed as early as the next day.

Be a part of this annual tradition. Let's make sure every hard-working family in Western Colorado has food on the table this holiday season. Hope to see you this Saturday, December 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Safeway on Patterson.
