There are plenty of ways to get from Grand Junction to Denver, but if you are pinching pennies, what is the cheapest way?

When it comes to travel plans, there are a number of considerations ranging from cost, time, and convenience. The fastest route may not be the cheapest route, and the cheapest route may not be the most convenient.

Let's take a look at how we can get to Denver from Grand Junction for the least amount of money, and the shortest amount of time.

If you purchase a bus ticket at least three days in advance, you can get to Denver via Greyhound Bus for $50 one way. The price isn't bad, but it certainly isn't the fastest way to cross the mountains with travel times ranging from five hours fifteen minutes to over eight hours.

Getting to Denver by rail is always a possibility. While there are a number of options offered by Amtrak, the cheapest fare is $66 for a one-way ticket with a travel time of just over eight hours.

If you're going for quick, flying from Grand Junction to Denver is the best option, but it for sure won't be cheap. If you book far enough in advance, you can get a round-trip ticket from Expedia for between $300 and $400 with flight times ranging from 2 1/2 hours and more. If you want to travel non-stop and make the trip in about an hour, it's gonna run you in the neighborhood of $500.

Taking a taxi is always an option, but not a cheap one. According to taxifarefinder.com, a one-way trip to Denver would cost about $634 - including the tip!

Finally, we have the good old-fashioned way, which most of us do - we drive ourselves. It is clearly the cheapest and most convenient method because you can depart on your own schedule. If you get 25 miles to the gallon, at $2.20 per gallon of gas, you could make the one-way trip on $22. Of course, you will want to throw in a few more dollars for a cup of coffee along the way and maybe a couple of Twinkies or a sandwich.

So, the choice is yours - cheap, fast, or convenient. It can't be all three!
