Unlike some shows, six seasons on one network is usually enough to merit a proper sendoff. So it is, that FOX will grant New Girl a short and sweet goodbye, renewing the bubble show for a seventh and final season.

FOX confirmed as much Sunday, despite some earlier concerns that New Girl Season 6 might have ended up the last for the Zooey Deschanel comedy. Instead, a seventh and final season will run at fall or midseason; likely comprised of around eight episodes.

It was star Jake Johnson who previously expressed a possibility that New Girl wouldn’t return for Season 7, and that the Season 6 finale was written for appropriate closure. The sixth season averaged 2.9 million viewers, a far cry from the series’ early heights in Seasons 2 and 3.

For what it’s worth, New Girl has still drawn notable headlines in recent years, between Megan Fox’s semi-regular addition to the cast, or this past season’s crossover episode with Brooklyn Nine-Nine. All cast are expected to return, including Deschanel, Johnson, Lamorne Morris, Max Greenfield and Hannah Simone.

FOX will announce a decision on the final season’s placement soon, but are we ready to say goodbye to New Girl?
