The first week of May is recognized as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week. Mesa County Sheriff Matt Lewis recently paid tribute to those individuals who keep the Mesa County Detention Facility running so well.

During National Correctional Officers and Employees Week, observed May 1 through 7, the public is asked to give thanks to the hard working men and women serving in the corrections profession. It's also an opportunity to pay tribute to those who've lost their lives while performing their duties.

Earlier this week, Mesa County Sheriff Matt Lewis gave a speech recognizing the crews working at the Mesa County facility. He also took time to remember Edward Innes, a Mesa County correctional officer killed in the line of duty in 1906.

Please keep in mind the large number of people who work to keep the Mesa County Correctional Facility running so well. Be sure to pay tribute to all those who devote their time to this effort: correctional officers, medical staff, food service, and volunteers.

Chances are you know someone working at the Mesa County Detention Facility. Please take a moment to thank them for a job well done.
