When it comes to the best place for adventure in Colorado, welcome to Fruita.

Elevation Outdoors Magazine recently asked its readers to rate the best towns in Colorado for adventure and Fruita topped the list in the large town category.

For those who live in Western Colorado, it's no surprise the town is a mecca for mountain biking, but the magazine said there's more to the town than fat tire bicycling.

For one, Fruita sits at the base of the Colorado National Monument. In addition to the incredible hiking possibilities, the magazine says the 'Monument' has one of the best campgrounds in the state.

Rimrock Drive is also a terrific road bike loop and the recently completed Rimrock Marathon, which finished in Fruita, proves there's something for almost every outdoor enthusiast.

The magazine also picked Fruita because of its river recreation, naming the Ruby-Horsethief section of the Colorado River as the best family float in the state.

Elevation Outdoors Magazine also mentioned the Kokepelli Trail ride from Fruita to Moab, Utah as an incredible adventure for fat tire fanatics. Top that off with the annual Fruita Fat Tire Festival and it's no surprise Fruita holds the top spot for adventure.

One of the Fruita adventures the magazine missed was navigating the twin roundabouts on Highway 340 just off the Fruita Interstate 70 exit. If that's not enough, the drive around Circle Park can also occasionally be an adventure, too.

In other categories, Elevation Outdoors Magazine named Leadville as the top medium size adventure town and South Fork as the top small town adventure location in Colorado.
