When was the last time you visited the Colorado National Monument? This Saturday, September 22, is your chance to visit for free.

All national parks are free Saturday in honor of National Public Lands Day. This annual event, established in 1994, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. You should celebrate by visiting Western Colorado's iconic destination.

Personally, I can't recall the last time I visited the monument. It's been at least six or seven years. What a great opportunity to make up for lost time. Not only that, it coincides with Fruita's Fall Festival.

Are there any other free days coming up soon? Not really. As a matter of fact, you'll only see one more free day at the Colorado National Monument in 2018. According to the National Park Service webpage, the only remaining free day for 2018 is Veterans Day, November 11.

Is this free day limited to the Colorado National Monument? Not at all. Colorado has four state parks, each offering free admission on Saturday, September 22. The state parks include:

  • Rocky Mountain
  • Black Canyon
  • Great Sand Dunes
  • Mesa Verde

Looking back on the calendar year, there are only four free days at the Colorado National Monument in 2018. That's not many. Why not take full advantage of the opportunities you have? Make plans to visit this weekend, and take advantage of the low, low entry price of "free."
