As western Colorado heads into the summer tourist season, the employment situation in Mesa County hasn't changed, at least for the last couple of months.

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) reports Mesa County unemployment for April was 5.9 percent, the same as March.

Statewide unemployment increased two-tenths of a point to 3.1 percent. The increase is due to 11,300 people looking for jobs, but only 6,100 of those job seekers finding employment.

Nationally, the unemployment rate remained unchanged month to month at 5 percent.
