Grand Junction's new solar garden will be the first of its kind on the Western Slope, and construction starts in a few days.

This community solar garden will now be unique to Western Colorado. District 51 schools, who owns the property that will house the solar farm, will lease out the electricty that is generated and will receive approximately $12,000 in lease money annually according to, KREX News Channel 5.

The main subscribers to the power will include, District 51 schools, the City of Grand Junction. Others may include Mesa County , Alpine Bank and the Grand Junction Housing Authority.

Over the next 20 years Grand Junction will save approximately $2 million dollars.

Construction starts April 21st and will end in early July.
