Independence Pass was surveyed and named in 1873 and was originally named Hunter Pass. The pass in on Highway 82 and is at 12,095 feet in elevation.

Independence Pass has been a route of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. It's also the highest paved crossing of the Continental Divide and the fourth highest paved road in Colorado.

Independence Pass is closed from November until the Thursday before Memorial Day, depending on the weather. Get there while you can! So many photo ops at Independence Pass.
