Here's something to make Western Colorado and Colorado Mesa University proud.

The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year is CMU senior Ryan Stephan. The announcement was made on Tuesday (March 1).

The same day, the Mavericks beat the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys 95-77 in overtime. Stephan scored three at the beginning of OT and 18 total in the first round of the RMAC tournament.

CMU will head to Durango to play Colorado School of Mines in the tournament semi-finals.

Stephan's first season with the Mavs seemed to some, not all that impressive. He played in all 28 games scoring an average of 4.5 points per game.

The following season, Stephan played in all 27 games, averaged 18.4 points and earned All-RMAC First Team Honors.

This season, in addition to the Player of the Year Award, Stephan led the team in scoring, rebounds and free throws. He was also awarded the NABC Honors Court, First Team All-RMAC, First Team Pre-Season All-RMAC, Second Team All-Region and is a three time RMAC Player of the Week.

Congratulations Ryan and Colorado Mesa University for all the work developing such an outstanding player.
