Teens and adults who have thought about writing a novel but don't know how to start, have a chance to learn from published authors for free.

As a part of National Novel Writing Month in November, the Mesa County Central Library is hosting an event to help people find out if they have what it takes to be a novelist.

The kick-off for National Novel Writing Month is Tuesday (November 1), 4 p.m. at the Central Library 5th Street and Grand Avenue in Grand Junction.

The event will include a discussion with published authors who will answer questions and offer suggestions to help those interested start writing a novel.

Following the kick-off, there will be separate weekly writers group events scheduled throughout the month for teens and adults.

The weekly meetings will teach novel writing techniques including choosing the right words, breaking writer's block, prompts, write-offs and other ways to turn inspiration and ideas into words on a page.
