Cumulus Broadcasting LLC – Grand Junction, CO
Equal Employment Opportunity Program
Radio stations KEKB-FM, KBKL-FM, KMXY-FM, KKNN-FM and KEXO-AM serve the Grand Junction, Fruita, Delta, Montrose and associated outlying areas, and provide equal employment opportunity to all job applicants. These stations operate as a unit, which assures that every effective community resource available is employed to generate qualified job applicants from all ethnic and gender segments of our community.
The following outlines the stations’ program and procedures to assure all qualified candidates, both within and without the communities we serve, who might be interested in employment with our company can learn about and apply for any positions that might become available:
1. A list of recruitment sources, which is periodically reviewed and revised, is utilized and contacted by phone at least once a year to encourage both general and job specific referrals.
2. On-air advertisements are periodically employed for positions that do not require radio specific technical, operational or talent skills, generally for sales, accounting and administrative positions.
3. All existing staff are notified by email and posting of a bulletin in the break areas of any new openings, and staff are encouraged to refer anyone they know that might be qualified, or to apply themselves if they are interested and feel they qualify. In the case of sales positions, the encouragement includes a special bonus paid for referrals who are hired.
4. The stations use the Internet extensively for recruitment at all levels:
tAll full-time openings are posted on the websites of all four FM radio stations (AM station does not currently have a website) including email addresses for emailing resumes, address for applications/resume delivery, fax numbers for sending resumes and other materials to establish qualification such as a job description.
tJob search websites, local, regional and national are periodically tried and evaluated for effectiveness. We use www.allaccess.com, mainly for programming personnel, www.mesastate.edu, for all openings.
tThe Cumulus corporate website encourages potential applicants researching the
company to apply at the market level, and provides mapping for selecting specific
markets in which the Company operates stations.
5. Management meetings are held on a weekly basis. These meetings are utilized in part for training of management on EEO issues and compliance. EEO monitoring is performed by the Business Manager who ensures all new prospective employees have been hired in compliance with FCC EEO rules and all paperwork required by these rules are turned in prior to issuing of new hire paperwork.
6. The above management participates and/or directs participation in a variety of outreach programs and evaluates the effectiveness of each.
tOutreach and Recruitment Efforts
Cumulus Broadcasting participates and sponsors on a yearly basis as many job fairs as feasible. Some of these job fairs include The Grand Junction Area Chamber of Commerce, Mesa County Workforce Center, Mesa Sate College and School District 51. We use these job fairs to distribute information on current job openings, job descriptions, internship programs, and general information regarding our company and employment therein to anyone interested in applying for a job with us. Management personnel were on location to discuss employment opportunities. Cumulus of Grand Junction co-sponsored most of these events. All five Cumulus stations broadcast throughout the day, and each station aired recruitment messages prior to the event.
Cumulus Broadcasting holds presentations at Mesa State College with communications students and professors to inform them of the internship programs and other employment offered through Cumulus Broadcasting, LLC.
Cumulus Broadcasting LLC holds open houses once or twice a year, we hold an open house so prospective employees may come in, tour our facility, learn about employment with our company and apply for openings.
Promotions Directors work with schools, youth groups, civic groups, etc. to schedule tours of the Cumulus of Grand Junction facilities which include Q&A sessions regarding careers in broadcasting, and what educational requirements are necessary to qualify someone interested in a broadcast career. At least 15 groups toured the facility during this period.
All employment notices, material and advertising, whether written or broadcast, include the phrase, “Cumulus Broadcasting is an equal opportunity employer.”
All producers of local, on-air programming on all Cumulus – Grand Junction stations, including news, public service/public affairs, commercial content and announcer entertainment/commentary, are routinely counseled regarding sensitivity to minority, gender and other diversity issues in order to foster the perception and the reality within our communities that Cumulus actively promotes equal employment opportunity for all, regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.
