Are you looking for an opportunity to make a difference in people's lives and the community? Do you love the great outdoors? Why not volunteer with Mesa County Search and Rescue?

The Mesa County Search and Rescue Ground Team responds to roughly 55 to 65 missions a year. These could include finding lost individuals or carrying an injured mountain biker to safety. Participants are on call 24/7 to assist the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.

Applications are being accepted right now. Do you have what it takes? Good question. What does it take? Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Carry a 40-pound pack over mountain terrain
  • Complete a five-week course
  • Must pass a background check
  • Complete interview process

Applications are available at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, or via their website.

How much does this gig pay? It pays precisely $0. That's zero dollars and zero cents. Okay, you won't get rich. Nevertheless, this is still a valuable opportunity.

Why should you give up your valuable time and volunteer with this group? Here are my top five reasons:

  • It's a chance to assist your fellow Western Colorado citizens
  • You can enjoy quality time in the great outdoors
  • Earn valuable skills which could easily translate to any job
  • Meet fascinating people with similar interests
  • The skills you learn may one day save your life

Be a part of something special. How many times a year do you hear about the Mesa County Search and Rescue on the news? They do amazing work. Why not be a part of it?
