When you think about events like bridal fairs you typically think of an event young couples, their families and friends attend as they look for ways to have the perfect wedding. So, why would anyone else want to attend? The answer..You probably know someone who is getting married. Or, you'll be invited to a wedding this year.  If you're like me and it's been a long time since your own wedding, it never hurts to know what the current trends and fashions are. Knowledge of how a modern wedding works will help you avoid a major wedding faux pas, (or showing how old and out of touch you are), when discussing it with someone or attending a wedding and reception.

Many exhibitors do more than weddings. Look at it this way, you can see the work of a photographer you're considering for a family portrait or your kid's senior portrait. You can check out a caterer for your family reunion or office party. Valentines Day is coming up, why not stop by the florist's booth and get some ideas for flowers you want to send to your sweetheart. While you're there, pick up some information on that romantic vacation you've been wanting to take with your spouse.

It's a great place to mix and mingle. If you're single, I'm not saying you'll find your future spouse here, but being in a place with people in love may help you have a more optimistic outlook about it. If you're already happily married, consider the possibility of renewing your vows, hosting an anniversary reception, or finally taking that honeymoon you never had.

It's too cold to do anything else. Nothing works better than a bunch of happy people and a festive atmosphere to take the chill off and lift your spirits. For some, a fashion show is much more exciting than sitting at home watching yet another football game.

Bridal Fair is Saturday (Jan12) at the Doubletree by Hilton on Horizon Drive in Grand Junction.  Doors open at 10am. Admission $5
